CHEYNEY, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team had nine different players score on Saturday afternoon but couldn't put together a second-half comeback from Cope Hall, losing 69-59 to Cheyney in its regular season road finale.
Senior
Dane Lauber led the Raiders (9-17, 6-14 PSAC) in scoring with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting off the bench in addition to five rebounds and three assists.
Freshman
Sam Pygatt recorded his first double-figure scoring performance in PSAC East play and his first overall since Dec. 3. Pygatt shot 5-of-5 from the free throw line on Saturday and finished with 12 points and a career-high-tying five rebounds. It was his fourth double-figure scoring effort of his freshman season.
Sophomore
Dylan Edgar scored seven points and senior
Jordan Stasyszyn poured in five. Freshman
Reggie Charles notched a team-high four assists to go along with six points and four rebounds.
Senior
Will Royal had six points and a team-high six rebounds while senior
Craig Van Scyoc put up six points and recorded four rebounds.
Cheyney (3-20, 2-17 PSAC) led by as many as 11 in the first half, opening up a 25-14 lead 11 minutes into the contest. The Raiders chipped away at its deficit for the remainder of the half and got as close as four before the Wolves entered the break up six, 32-26.
Shippensburg pulled close early in the second half, as a Lauber three-pointer brought SU within two, down 38-36, at the 16:12 mark of the period. Cheyney answered with a 7-0 run to get back ahead by nine.
The Wolves defense limited SU's post production and got out on several fast breaks throughout the second half, as they watched their lead grow to as much as 15 points with four minutes remaining.
Shippensburg will return home on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip against Millersville from Heiges Field House.
