MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team fought back from a 16-point deficit in the second half to get within three points at two different occasions on Wednesday night, but was unable to stop Millersville, falling 75-70 from Pucillo Gymnasium.

Senior Dane Lauber made his sixth start of the season and led all scorers (6-13, 3-10 PSAC) with a career-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds. The effort was Lauber's first career 20-point game, as he shot 7-of-11 from the field while going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Senior Will Royal went 5-of-9 from the field to finish with 12 points and four rebounds, while senior Jordan Stasyszyn made two three-pointers en route to 10 points and five rebounds. He also tied a career high with five assists.

Stasyszyn and freshman Reggie Charles led SU with five assists each. Charles also made a career-high four steals to go along with seven points, while sophomore Dylan Edgar added six points and five rebounds.

Senior Craig Van Scyoc shot 3-of-4 from the floor and finished with seven points and five rebounds.

Throughout the first half, Shippensburg had trouble stopping Millersville's (6-11, 4-9) Elijah Obade, who went into halftime with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Marauders led 39-28 at the break. Both of SU's post players (Royal and Edgar) had racked up two fouls within the first eight minutes of play, allowing Obade to benefit from frequent defensive mismatches.

The Raiders clawed back in the second half, however, as Shippensburg committed just four turnovers while limiting Obade to four points and two rebounds in the period. A 10-0 SU run led by Royal and Lauber cut a 16-point deficit to a 46-40 Millersville lead with 14:20 to play.

Just over four minutes later, a Charles dunk on a fast break closed out a 6-0 run that brought Shippensburg within three points, 50-47. It was its closest margin since being down 8-6 in the early stages.

A layup from freshman Sam Pygatt with 8:57 left again cut the deficit to just three, 54-51, but that would be as close as Shippensburg would get the rest of the way.

A Demond Vance three-pointer with 1:32 left gave Millersville a commanding eight-point advantage. Millersville also hit 7-of-8 at the free-throw line in the final 40 seconds of the game to seal the victory.

SU returns home on Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup against Cheyney from Heiges Field House.
