SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Three players scored at least 13 points on Saturday afternoon, but the Shippensburg University men's basketball team was unable to hold onto a halftime lead over visiting East Stroudsburg, losing 69-64 from Heiges Field House.
Senior
Will Royal scored 14 points to go along with six rebounds, while senior
Dane Lauber led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with two rebounds and two assists off the bench.
Sophomore
Dylan Edgar went 6-of-7 from the floor to finish with 13 points and five rebounds, while senior
Craig Van Scyoc led SU with nine rebounds to go along with four points.
Senior
Jordan Stasyszyn and freshman
Reggie Charles each scored eight points.
Both teams went back and forth at the start of the game before Shippensburg, down 17-12 at the 13:54 mark of the half, used an Edgar layup to spark a 9-0 run over 1:52 and grab a 21-17 SU lead. The Raiders later used a 7-0 run to go up 31-25 with 2:54 left in the half. But a jumper by ESU's Russell Graham III that just beat the buzzer narrowed Shippensburg's halftime lead to 34-32.
The Raiders and Warriors again battled back and forth during the second half, as neither team held a lead larger than three points until a Terrance King layup gave ESU a 64-59 advantage with 2:41 remaining in regulation.
The turning point down the stretch was a Duane Johnson alley-oop from Whis Grant that gave ESU a four-point lead, 66-62, with 1:32 left.
Shippensburg will travel to Millersville on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. clash with the Marauders from Pucillo Gymnasium.
