WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Despite getting double-doubles from seniors Will Royal and Craig Van Scyoc, the Shippensburg University men's basketball team fell on the road to West Chester, 78-74, on Wednesday night from Hollinger Field House.

Royal scored his most points in over a month, as the forward poured in 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with 13 rebounds. Van Scyoc went 5-of-9 from the floor to finish with 13 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Seniors Dane Lauber and Jordan Stasyszyn also scored in double-figures for the Raiders (6-11, 3-8 PSAC). Lauber made five of his six shots from the field to finish with 13 points off the bench, while Stasyszyn went 7-of-8 from the free throw line to finish with 10 points.

Freshman Reggie Charles led all players with eight assists in addition to four points. Sophomore Dylan Edgar scored seven points on 3-of-5 shooting while collecting five rebounds.

The Raiders out-rebounded West Chester (7-8, 4-7 PSAC) 40-30 but committed 17 turnovers compared to just five committed by the Golden Rams. Each team attempted 30 free throws, but SU made only 19 while WCU sank 25.

West Chester opened up a 7-0 lead nearly five minutes into the game before Shippensburg finally got on the board at the 15:01 with a three-pointer from Lauber. The Golden Rams' eventually led 20-10 with exactly 11 minutes left.

Shippensburg followed that up with a three-pointer from junior John Corrigan and a Royal jumper en route to a quick 8-0 run to get to 20-18.

With 1:31 remaining, a Charles bucket closed the deficit to 33-32, but a 6-0 West Chester run gave the Golden Rams' a 39-32 halftime lead. WCU extended the run to 11-0 just 49 seconds into the second half for a 12-point lead.

The Raiders fought from behind for most of the second half, getting as close as 48-45 and 52-49 before a Royal free throw made the score 68-66 in favor of West Chester with 4:05 left.

But turnovers and missed shots down the stretch hindered SU's effort to pull closer than three points in the final 3:36 of the game.

Shippensburg will host East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House.
