WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team came up short Friday night at Hollinger Fieldhouse against a tough West Chester squad that hit .340 from the floor and served seven aces in a straight-set victory over the Raiders by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-21.
Shippensburg (3-10, 0-4 PSAC) hit .500 from the floor in the first set but totaled nine attack errors in each of the final two sets. Sophomore
Jill Edwards once again led the Raiders with 17 kills. Junior
Erin Flick was the most efficient SU hitter on Friday night, totaling six kills to just one error and hitting .417 from the floor.
Sophomore
Tessa Bivens was thrust into the role of libero for Shippensburg on Friday and totaled 11 digs. Junior
Andrea Heimsoth had 33 assists and five digs.
The Raiders mustered just two blocks on Friday despite entering the night averaging eight per match over its last eight contests. The Golden Rams had seven total blocks and tallied just eight attack errors for the entire match.
West Chester (10-6, 2-3 PSAC) established its offense from the outset and it was simply too much for Shippensburg to handle on Friday night. Julie Boblits led the Golden Rams with 16 kills. Six different West Chester players had at least one kill and none of the Golden Rams had a negative hitting percentage.
Shippensburg stays on the road Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Kutztown.
