EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Senior Jill Mullan set a school record Friday with the 50th stolen base of her career and senior Hope Cornell hit her 11th home run of the year as the Shippensburg University softball team concluded the 2011 regular season with a doubleheader sweep at East Stroudsburg by scores of 5-1 and 4-2.

Shippensburg (27-11, 13-3 PSAC East) swept the season series over the Warriors to finish with its most conference victories since the inception of the three-division format and its most in one year since 2006. SU also won three of four meetings this season against Kutztown, West Chester and Millersville.

The Raiders were held scoreless for the first five innings of Game 1 until the Queen of Clutch gave SU the lead in the sixth with one swing of the bat. Cornell delivered a two-out, three-run homer that plated senior Dana Ward and freshman pinch runner Hilary Lyons.

SU added two insurance runs in the seventh inning of the opener when freshman Kirstin McClune scored on a wild pitch and Ward singled home junior Meg Lehman.

Junior Chelsea Kendall was splendid in the circle and picked up her eighth win of the season. She allowed one run on eight hits while striking out nine hitters. Kendall also picked up her first career save in Game 2 working in relief of freshman Emily Estep.

Mullan made SU history right off the bat in Game 2. She had an infield single to lead off the game and immediately stole second base. It was the 16th steal of the season for Mullan – who moved ahead of Jamie Dacey '05 and Tracy Starke '97 in the SU record books. Mullan's single-season career high of 18 steals was set last year.

A three-run fourth inning was the difference in the second game. Cornell scored on a wild pitch; Lyons came home on an RBI-double by junior Emily Parkins, and freshman Marygrace Serra touched home plate on another RBI-single by Ward.

Senior Courtney Steele delivered a solo home run in the fifth – her seventh of the season – to round out SU's scoring. With three hits in Friday's doubleheader, Steele finished the regular season with a .400 batting average.

Ward has been on a tear at the plate. She had two hits and an RBI in both games Friday, extending her season-long hitting streak to 10 games. She has 15 multi-hit games this season and finished the regular season with a .378 batting average.

Estep finished the regular season with a 15-2 record and 140 strikeouts in 113.1 innings of work. She allowed one run on five hits in 5.2 innings of work Friday with six strikeouts. In all eight of her divisional starts, Estep allowed one earned run or less.

Shippensburg will host the Eastern Division site of the 2011 PSAC Tournament on Thursday and Friday. Thursday's games will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. from Robb Field. The representatives from the Central Division and the Western Division will be determined this weekend.
