SAVANNAH, Ga. – Clutch hitting and solid starting pitching keyed the Shippensburg University baseball team on Monday afternoon as the Raiders continued their winning ways with a 3-2 victory over No. 20 Armstrong Atlantic State at the 2011 Savannah Invitational.
Shippensburg (2-9) got a three-run homer in the third inning from junior
Tyler Uphouse and that was the difference in the contest. It was the only extra-base hit in the game.
SU scraped together nine hits overall – including two each from junior
Ben Miller and freshman
Pat Kregeloh. Senior
Jesse Smith had a single and a walk in four plate appearances.
Sophomore
Tom Bush was the difference Monday on the mound – scattering four hits and walking just two batters in seven innings of work. Through 21-plus innings of work this season, Bush has posted a 2.08 earned-run average and struck out 13 batters.
Junior
Jimmy Miller earned a save with two innings of relief, yielding just one unearned run while striking out two hitters.
Shippensburg will face California (Pa.) tomorrow at noon.
