SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Nate Reese recorded his fourth pin of the season on Thursday night from Heiges Field House and junior Wes Heavener notched his second technical fall as the Shippensburg University wrestling squad nearly outlasted Delaware Valley, dropping a 24-20 dual meet decision.

The match began at heavyweight and sophomore Dan Estricher set the tone for the Raiders, picking up a 7-3 decision for his fourth consecutive victory. He achieved two takedowns in the first period and got another just before the horn to cement his decision. Estricher is now 18-8 this season.

Junior Chris Kochinsky followed up the heavyweight match with a 7-2 decision at 125 pounds. Kochinsky's match had an interesting conclusion; as he achieved a two-point near fall just before the horn and was promptly reversed right at the final buzzer. Kochinsky has won seven of his last eight matches and is 13-7 overall.

Heavener came very close to recording a pin on several occasions in his match at 133 pounds. Armed with a 4-1 advantage in the second period, Heavener started on top and picked a two-point near fall and then back-to-back three-point near falls. During the third period, another set of three-point near falls concluded the match at 6:08.

Sophomore Simon Rice had a takedown and a three-point near fall in the first period of his match at 141 pounds and finished with a 9-5 decision. After the first four matches, the Raiders had raced out to a 14-0 lead.

After Delaware Valley answered with back-to-back pins, Reese answered by throwing his opponent on his back at 165 pounds. The match began with an exchange of takedowns, but Reese recorded his victory by fall just 15 seconds after achieving his escape. Reese is now 9-10 this season.

On Friday, Shippensburg will grapple with Anderson (SC) at 7 p.m. from Heiges Field House.
