CLARION, Pa. — The Shippensburg University men's basketball team got 20-plus points from seniors
Jordan Stasyszyn and
Will Royal but fell victim to a second-half run by Clarion in a 77-67 loss to the Golden Eagles from Tippin Gymnasium. It was SU's first road game of the season.
Shippensburg (4-6, 2-3 PSAC) played a solid first half, leading by as many as five points late in the frame before taking a one-point lead into the intermission after a late lay-up by senior
Craig Van Scyoc.
Royal was a physical force in the first half, scoring 13 points and making all nine of his free-throw attempts. He matched his season high with 21 points, shooting 13-of-15 from the free-throw line, and had six rebounds,
Clarion (7-3, 4-1 PSAC) outscored the Raiders 32-12 over the first 9 minutes, 43 seconds of the half to turn the tide. The Golden Eagles scored 28 points by the midway point of the second half after being limited to just 31 points in the first 20 minutes.
Stasyszyn scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, shooting 3-of-8 from three-point range. Overall, SU was limited to 5-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc while Clarion was an efficient 46 percent on 6-of-13 shooting.
Freshman
Reggie Charles had six points and six rebounds. All eight Raiders that got into the game had at least three points, but Stasyszyn and Royal were the only two players with more than six points.
Shippensburg is back in action tomorrow from Erie when it takes on Gannon at 4 p.m.
