SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Jordan Stasyszyn scored a career-high 26 points on Tuesday night to lead four Raiders in double figures as the Shippensburg University men's basketball team surpassed the 100-point barrier for the first time in nearly five years and defeated Central Penn, 104-87, from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (1-4) snapped its losing skid by scoring its most points in one game since totaling 108 in a home victory over Slippery Rock on Feb. 25, 1995. The last time the Raiders hit the 100-point plateau was on Dec. 7, 2006, when they scored 103 in a win over Ohio Valley. The Raiders had a field goal percentage of 61.4 percent, the highest in a game since they shot 62.8 percent in a win over Millersville on Feb. 11, 2009.
SU led by just four points at halftime, 48-44, before breaking out with an 18-4 run early in the second half to take control. The Raiders shot the lights out from distance, hitting 10-of-14 from three-point range in the contest, in addition to shooting 77 percent from the free-throw line.
Stasyszyn's 26-point night was the most for a Raider this season, as the senior went 9-of-11 from the floor and made all six of his three-point attempts. It is the third 20-plus point game of his career. In two career contests against Central Penn, Stasyszyn has totaled 46 points, shooting 10-of-13 from three-point range.
Freshman
Reggie Charles had a sensational second half, posting 19 of his career-high 22 points in the final frame. Charles added nine assists and shot 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the contest. In his last three games, Charles has totaled 40 points, 15 assists and five steals.
Senior
Will Royal scored a season-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting and made 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. It is the third time in Royal's career that he has totaled 20 more points in a game. Sophomore
Dylan Edgar (Shiremanstown/Mechanicsburg) was limited to just 15 minutes of playing time because of foul trouble but still managed 10 points and five rebounds.
