SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team was efficient with its attacks on Saturday afternoon and performed well to sweep both of its matches from Heiges Field House, defeating PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg and CIAA opponent Chowan by 3-0 scores.
Shippensburg (8-16, 4-8 PSAC East) had its second-most efficient offensive match of the season in its straight-set victory over the Warriors with a .375 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Jill Edwards had 15 kills to just one error and hit .467, while junior
Rachel Smicker contributed seven kills without any errors and hit .636. Junior
Erin Flick added nine kills to just one error and hit .444.
Overall, the Raiders had just eight attack errors against the Warriors – its second lowest total in a match this season, while serving five aces and totaling five blocks.
In the second match against Chowan,
Jill Edwards once again led all players with 12 kills – 11 of which came in the final two sets. She had a double-double against the Hawks with 13 digs and also had two block assists.
SU thrived in the middle against Chowan, as Flick totaled 10 kills on just two errors and hit .381. Sophomore
Tessa Bivens had five kills, eight digs, one solo block and four block assists.
Junior
Andrea Heimsoth had 35 assists against ESU and 32 assists against Chowan. She combined for five kills without an error and totaled three aces between the two matches.
Set scores against East Stroudsburg were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-12.
Set scores against Chowan were 25-20, 25-15 and 25-17.
Shippensburg returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday with a road match at Fairmont State.
