EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team scored 11 runs in the fifth inning of the second game of a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader at East Stroudsburg on a sunny Saturday afternoon to highlight a split with the Warriors. SU dropped the opener 3-1 before cruising to an 18-5 victory in the nightcap.

Shippensburg (12-27, 6-10 PSAC East) had already established a 7-1 lead in Game 2 before breaking the game open with eight hits and 11 runs in the fifth. The offensive barrage marks the most runs scored in one inning by the Red Raiders since April 27, 2005, when SU scored 13 runs before recording an out in the seventh inning of a 22-2 victory at Bloomsburg.

Senior third baseman Kevin Scholly and junior center fielder AJ Czap each had both a single and a double in the inning while sophomore shortstop Ben Miller walked and tripled during the frame. In all, 15 men came to the plate in the inning.

Czap had an excellent game at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs while scoring three runs. Ben Miller had a unique day at the dish; drawing walks in his first three plate appearances before lacing his two-run triple in the fifth inning. He finished with three RBIs and came around to score a run in all four of his trips to the plate.

Every Red Raider starter reached base at least once in the second game while eight of the nine reached base at least twice. Scholly had three hits and scored three runs; sophomore Jimmy Miller had two doubles, a walk and a run while junior Jesse Smith had two hits and two RBIs.

Sophomore southpaw Ted Williams tossed a complete game in the nightcap for his second victory of the season. Making his third divisional start of the year, Williams held ESU to just two runs through his first five innings of work and finished the contest issuing two walks and striking out five batters.

East Stroudsburg (14-16, 5-11 PSAC East) had a steady start from Christian Saveri to win Saturday's opener. The Red Raiders got 10 hits in the contest but left 13 runners on base, including at least one in every inning. Multiple runners were left on after five of the seven innings. Smith plated a run in the seventh on an RBI-single with two outs but a pop out ended the game with the potential go-ahead run at the plate.

Sophomore right fielder Cody Kulp had three hits in the opener, including two doubles, while junior first baseman Kris Kullman and sophomore second baseman Eric Herman each added two singles. Jimmy Miller suffered a complete-game loss, allowing three runs on eight hits through six innings of work.

Shippensburg has now scored 10 or more runs in a game on seven occasions this season, including four times in its last eight games.

The Red Raiders will travel to Shepherd a single nine-inning game at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
