WILMINGTON, Del. – The Shippensburg University baseball team held off a late Wilmington charge Tuesday afternoon to earn its second victory of the season in a 4-3 win over the Wildcats in nine innings from Wilson Field.
Starting pitcher freshman
Tom Bush worked two scoreless innings to win his first decision as a Red Raider on the mound. Bush surrendered two singles and a walk in the second inning to earn the victory. Sophomore
Cody Kulp picked up his first save of the season in an inning of relief work.
Offensively, junior
AJ Czap belted his second homerun of the season with a solo shot as the lead-off batter in the fifth inning. Czap also singled to lead off the game in the first inning.
Sophomore
Tyler Uphouse added two RBI on a fourth-inning double. Both freshman
Steve Sulcoski and Kulp scored on the Uphouse double after reaching base on singles earlier in the frame. Uphouse and Kulp finished 2-for-3 and 2-for-4, respectively, at the plate Tuesday.
Sophomore
Ben Miller brought home the only other Shippenbsurg run with an RBI in the first inning on a ground out, scoring Czap from third. Czap got into scoring position after advancing on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Shippensburg (2-14) opens its home schedule tomorrow in the second half of a home-and-home series with Wilmington. First pitch at Fairchild Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
