SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's swim team posted six individual PSAC cuts as it opened its home dual meet schedule on Tuesday evening from Donald N. Miller Pool with a victory over PSAC opponent Bloomsburg, 105-98.
In the 200-yard freestyle, juniors
Kristen McCandless and
Nicole Capozzi each performed well and posted PSAC cuts. McCandless won the event in 2:00.24 while Capozzi was just behind in 2:01.23. Capozzi was also SU's pacesetter in the 100-yard freestyle.
Sophomore
Julia Brownrigg was once again SU's pacesetter in the 200-yard IM (2:15.44) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.44), improving her times in both events from the West Chester meet and posting PSAC cuts in both.
Senior
Amy Fisher paced the 1,000-yard freestyle for the second straight meet, posting a time of 10:56.67 – her second-straight PSAC cut.
Freshman
Julie Brown debuted in the 50-yard freestyle and impressed with a meet-best time of 25.15. Brown joined Capozzi, freshman
Kaitlyn Shelly and McCandless on the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished in 3:45.15 and anchored a 200-yard medley relay with Brownrigg and juniors
Kate Johnson and
Rachael Ballard.
SU returns to action on Friday at 5 p.m. from Fairmont State.
