Biography
2010-11 (Junior): Placed twice at the PSAC Championships as an individual competitor and also placed at the conference meet with a relay squad…finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.22 and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.05 that is the third-fastest for the event in SU history…contributed to the 800-yard freestyle relay squad that placed fifth in 7:46.27…achieved PRs in the 100, 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle events during the season…finished the season as SU’s second-fastest swimmer in the 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle events…her season PR in the 200-yard freestyle of 1:54.84 ranks sixth in school history.
2009-10 (Sophomore): Made her debut for the women’s swimming team at Shippensburg and thrived as a freestyle swimmer…earned All-American honors with SU’s 800-yard freestyle relay after an 11th-place finish at nationals (7:41.46)…contributed to the same 800-yard freestyle relay that finished fifth at the PSAC Championships…individually posted three Top 10 finishes at the PSAC Championships, including seventh-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.35) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:32.33) and a consolation group championship in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.16)…ranked among SU’s top four competitors in five of six freestyle events.
2008-09 (Freshman): Competed for the women’s swimming team at Towson University…swam freestyle and backstroke events…ranked ninth on the team in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.70)…11th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.86) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:01.13)…12th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.08)…13th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.78) and 18th in the 100-yard freestyle (55.76).
Emmaus High School: Earned four letters under head coach and SU swimming alum Tim O’Connor…posted a personal-best time of 1:54.56 in the 200-meter freestyle and a personal-best of 5:06.41 in the 500 free… competed for Emmaus Aquatic Club on the club level.
Personal: Full name is Kristen McCandless…is the daughter of Jack and Joanne McCandless…majoring in elementary education while seeking a minor in mathematics.
