SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swim team had strong freestyle swims from senior
Tim Smullen and sophomore
Eddie LaNoue along with excellent backstroke efforts by sophomore
Joe Keefe and freshman
Ryan Westley as it opened its home schedule on Tuesday from Donald N. Miller Pool with a dual meet victory over PSAC opponent Bloomsburg, 105.5-97.5.
Smullen posted two of Shippensburg's six individual PSAC cuts – winning the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 48.77 and 1:47.81 respectively. Both efforts are faster than those recorded at the season-opening West Chester meet.
LaNoue improved four one-hundredths of a second on his 50-yard freestyle time from the WCU meet to win Tuesday's event. He continues to perform well in sprints early this season.
Keefe and Westley both impressed with PSAC cuts in the 100-yard backstroke – posting times of 54.97 and 55.53 to finish 1-2. In the 100-yard breaststoke, Westley was a part of an impressive medley relay with sophomore
Sean Minford, freshman
Jared Figueroa and LaNoue that posted a winning time of 1:39.00. Minford also posted an individual PSAC cut of 1:02.99 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Sophomore
Eric Naylor was SU's pacesetter in the 1,000-yard freestyle and anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay that featured Smullen, Westley and senior
Derek Yeager. The quarter posted a time of 3:18.05.
SU returns to action on Friday at 5 p.m. from Fairmont State.
