CHEYNEY, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team swept Cheyney on Friday night in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader from Cope Hall. The set scores of the first match were 25-5, 25-10 and 25-4 while the second match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-4, 25-7.

Shippensburg (9-9, 3-5 PSAC) received many contributions from its young players. Freshman Ashley Merton paced SU in the opener with eight kills while fellow freshmen Amanda Shortridge and Tessa Bivens each served up five of the team's 25 aces.

In the second match, sophomore Erica Williams ripped a team-high eight kills without an error and had three solo blocks. Freshman Mariah Mahlendorf had a team-high eight service aces, while Merton had six. Sophomore Karla Peterson had an intriguing stat line, posting six kills, five digs, three service aces and two assists.

The Lady Raiders will head back to the court at 7 p.m. Saturday for a huge road match at Kutztown.
