SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Freshman Simon Rice recorded his first collegiate pin in Shippensburg University wrestling's home opener on Tuesday evening from Heiges Field House but the Red Raiders could not overcome visiting East Stroudsburg, dropping a 24-12 decision to the Warriors.

Shippensburg (0-2) fell behind 10-0 after the first three bouts but rallied to get within one point of East Stroudsburg after a hard-earned 4-3 decision for sophomore Justin Morris and Rice's pin. Morris recorded a takedown in the first period, earned an escape to start the third period and evaded his opponent for the victory.

Rice took an interesting route to his pin, falling behind 8-3 after the first period following four takedowns by ESU's Andrew Arnold. In the second period, however, Rice made a sudden move to force a takedown and record a near fall that tied the score at 8-8. Shortly into the third period, Rice got Arnold on his back for the victory by fall in 5:37.

The match started at 184 pounds and featured the return of senior Jon Hade. It ended with redshirt junior Chris Barrick, who battled to earn a 7-3 decision over Ken Monarque. Barrick is now 9-1 on the season.

Shippensburg returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday against Seton Hill from Heiges Field House.
