FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Shippensburg University baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday with a pair of impressive victories over one of the top teams in the North Atlantic Region, defeating Slippery Rock by scores of 10-2 and 5-0 from the Lawnwood Complex in Florida.

Shippensburg (5-11) has grown comfortable playing at the complex in Fort Pierce, as the Raiders have won four consecutive games against regional opponents from the facility and eight straight games over the past two years.

Senior starting pitcher Tim Freshour went the distance in the opener, allowing just two runs in his first complete game of the season. Despite giving up 11 hits, Freshour struck out four batters and the Raiders turned three double plays in the victory.

Freshman right fielder Cody Kulp continued his outstanding play with a 3-for-3 performance in the opener, hitting a double and racking up four RBIs in the contest. Senior left fielder Kasey Kuhns went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases.

Senior starting pitcher Andrew Burke pitched 5.2 shutout innings in the second game, striking out five batters for his first win of the season. Freshman Ryan Rehman closed out the sixth inning, while sophomore Kody Kibler got the final three outs in the seventh to cap off two excellent performances for the Raiders.

Senior Tyler Redick went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs in the second game, while Kuhns went 2-for-3 with two runs and another steal. Senior second baseman Kyle Rhoades had a single, two sacrifices, a steal and a run, and sophomore catcher Kris Kullman came off the bench and delivered a two-run double.

Slippery Rock (8-2) a squad receiving votes in the Division II poll, entered the doubleheader on a three-game wining streak having swept No. 11 West Chester yesterday from Fort Pierce by scores of 4-2 and 6-5. The Rock was held to just a pair of runs on Thursday after scoring 69 runs in their previous six games.

The Raiders have made a slight change to their schedule for Friday. Shippensburg will now play just one game against Northwood instead of the previously-scheduled doubleheader. First pitch from Fort Pierce is scheduled for 10 a.m.
