SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Three Raiders pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon from Fairchild Field as the Shippensburg University baseball team avenged a 6-4 loss to Indiana (Pa.) University with a 5-0 victory in the nightcap.

Shippensburg (9-15) received a strong start in Game 2 from senior pitcher Tim Freshour, who struck out four batters in three innings and earned his fourth victory of the season. Freshman Ryan Rehman and Nick Umberger teamed with senior Tyler Redick to allow just two hits over the final four innings.

Freshman Cody Kulp extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-run double in the second game and finished the day 3-for-7 with three RBIs. Sophomore shortstop Steve McCardell had three hits and scored three runs.

The Raiders held a 4-2 lead in the opening game after a fourth inning that featured an RBI-double from Kulp, a Crimson Hawk fielding error, a sacrifice fly from freshman Ben Miller and an RBI-single from senior Kyle Rhoades.

IUP (6-4) rallied over the final two innings, however, as Roland Thiele fought through a nine-pitch at bat to tie the score with a two-run single in the sixth inning and Paul Bingham's second consecutive triple led to a two-run single in the seventh by T.J. Nichols that gave the Crimson Hawks a victory.

Shippensburg scored single runs in the first and second innings of the second game and got two runs in the third en route its victory. The Raiders did not commit an error and the pitchers combined to walk just one batter.

The Raiders will compete in two more crossover doubleheaders this weekend, playing a home-and-home series with Lock Haven. Shippensburg travels on Friday to face the Bald Eagles at 1 p.m. before hosting Lock Haven on Saturday from Fairchild Field at 1 p.m.
