SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball nearly came away with two victories against PSAC Western Division opponents on Friday during the first day of competition at the PSAC Crossover from Heiges Field House but dropped decisions to Mercyhurst and Gannon.
Shippensburg (7-13, 3-5 PSAC) trailed two sets to none (25-15, 25-15) against the Lakers in the opening match of the tournament but rallied to win the third and the fourth sets (25-19, 27-25). The Lady Raiders had a match point in the fifth set but ultimately dropped the decisive set to the Lakers by a 16-14 margin.
Offensively, senior outside hitter 
Hannah Sorber provided a stellar effort over the final three sets, totaling 16 kills to complement nine digs. Sophomore 
Libby Woffindin and freshman 
Jenny Pry contributed 11 kills while freshman 
Andrea Heimsoth had 42 assists and 16 digs. 
After hitting under .100 in the first three sets, Shippensburg smacked 16 kills in the fourth set and compiled a hitting percentage of .244. 
In the team's second match of the day, the Lady Raiders nearly took the first set against Gannon and did take the second set but ultimately could not continues it momentum. Shippensburg dropped a 3-1 decision to the Golden Knights in game four of the crossover. Set scores were 29-27, 25-27, 25-16, 25-22.
Sorber continued her stellar offensive performance with 19 kills and 11 digs while delivering three service aces. Heimsoth delivered 39 assists and 12 digs while freshman 
Lauren Murphy moved into the role of libero and contributed a team-high 16 digs.   
Shippensburg will host Edinboro on Saturday at 1 p.m. from Heiges Field House.
