SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Seniors
Gabe Oropollo and
Brian Taylor each won two individual events Friday afternoon on Senior Day from the Donald N. Miller Pool inside Heiges Field House to help propel the Raider swimmers in a 151-106 defeat of PSAC opponent Bloomsburg.
Shippensburg won its first dual meet of the season and won 10 of the 14 contested events. The Raiders dominated the freestyle events, winning four of the five flights while sweeping the 1,000-yard freestyle swim.
Oropollo won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.78 seconds, besting sophomore
Tim Smullen by more than one second. Later, Oropollo won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.43.
Taylor once again displayed his excellence in the butterfly events, winning both the 100 and the 200 on Friday. He earned first place in the 100-yard event with a time of 53.46 seconds and then bested the competition in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.44.
A third multiple-winner for Shippensburg on Friday was sophomore
Josh Nyce. Nyce won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.35 and also excelled in the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:45.97. Senior

Richard Deley helped the Raiders sweep the 200-yard freestyle by finishing in second and third.
Both Oropollo and Taylor earned another first-place finish when they teamed with Miller and junior
Nate Ryan to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.40.
Later in the day, Miller won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.69, while Smullen bested Ryan by .05 seconds to win the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.32. Junior
Shane Wolter won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:49.72.
Shippensburg will return to action on Friday, January 23 with a home meet against Kutztown. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.
