Ballard Wins 200 Breaststroke and 400 IM But Lady Raiders Fall To Clarion, 173-122

Fisher and Knupp also win swimming flights for Shippensburg

CLARION, Pa. - Freshman Rachael Ballard won the 200-yard breaststroke and the the 400-yard IM to continue her solid debut season, but the Lady Raiders could not hold off the Golden Eagles of Clarion, falling 173-122 on Saturday.

Ballard finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.30 to earn the victory 36 one-hundredths of a second and recorded a time of 4:51.13. Senior Molly McNeil finished two seconds behind in the IM for a second-place finish.

Senior Noelle Knupp finished the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:12.47, a full 11 seconds in front of freshman teammate Jamie Hepburn. Sophomore Amy Fisher finished with the top time in the 500-yard freestyle, completing her swim in 5:25.25. Knupp took second in the event with a time of 5:30.11.

Junior Whitney Garner was just 53 one-hundredths of a second behind Clarion's Megan Burrows in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing her swim in 2:01.76. Senior Mandi Foltz finished just 21 one-hundredths of a second behind Paige Quigley in the 200-yard butterfly.

Senior Theresa Simcic completed the 50-yard freestyle in 25.29 seconds, while Garner finished the 100 freestyle in 55.97 seconds.

Shippensburg returns to action in three weeks for one its biggest meets of the season. The Patriot Invitational from George Mason University will take place from November 21-23.
