SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men's swim team opened its season at Donald N. Miller pool Saturday afternoon with a meet against the reigning conference champions, West Chester University. The visiting Golden Rams earned a 163-90 victory over the Red Raiders, who earned most of their points in the medley and relay events.
The Red Raiders recorded a solid performance in the 50 yard butterfly, totaling 16 points on the strength of three swimmers. Freshman #Alan Snyder# led all swimmers in the finals with a time of 24.89 seconds, while sophomore #Nate Ryan# finished in 25.45 and sophomore #Evan Wentzel# took third place with a time of 26.08.
In the 200-yard IM, freshman #Josh Nyce# ( led all swimmers with a time of 2:03.75, while junior Alex Fox completed the event in 2:13.04. Wentzel recorded another third-place finish in the event, earning Shippensburg four points.
The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Snyder, Ryan, junior #Gabe Oropollo# and junior #John Miller# won that event with a strong time of 1:29.50 to give Shippensburg 11 points.
The Shippensburg 'B' team of junior #Will Kane# , freshman #Tim Smullen# , senior #Chris Ford# and senior #Drew Higgins# earned four points in the event with a time of 1:35.81.
The swim teams return to action on Friday, Oct. 19 when they host Canisius at Donald N. Miller pool. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
