The Shippensburg University field hockey team begins its 2026 season at 10 a.m. Friday when it faces Belmont Abbey in a match that is being played at Wingate University.

Shippensburg will still be playing nationally-ranked Lander as it originally anticipated on Saturday, but that match will also begin at 10 a.m. and it is now a true road game being played at Lander (in South Carolina).

The Raiders' home schedule kicks off with a rematch of the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship Game Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. against Newberry. The team will also recognize the 10th anniversary of the 2016 NCAA Championship team during the game.

It's a fresh start. Every team is 0-0, but the best part about it is that every team is going to give us their best game. That's exciting for us and we are super motivated to start the season, especially PSAC play.

Last year was new for everyone. This year, knowing [Coach Wallace’s coaching style], we are able to help the freshmen out, know what to expect and are able to set a standard from the beginning. Also, the pace that we are practicing is at a higher level than last year because we know what coach is expecting, so we can jump right into them and really get the hockey work done.

The class breakdown of the 2026 roster is listed below. It is using the “traditional” eligibility model.

All six of this year's seniors will have the opportunity to return next year as “fifth-years.”

Shippensburg is under the direction of head coach Rayell Wallace, who enters her second season with the Raiders. SU went 20-3 last season and ended the year on a six-game winning streak – having won the PSAC Championship and the NCAA Division II National Championship.

SU avenged all three of its regular season losses in the span of five days during the 2025 PSAC Tournament, defeating No. 1-ranked Kutztown in the championship game.

The NCAA Tournament saw the Raiders knock off No. 1 overall seed KU in the semifinals and then-undefeated Newberry in the finals, coming back from a one-goal deficit in each game.

It's nice to come in and have a common language. The upperclassmen understand what we are looking for -- the pace we are looking for and the intensity. Because of that, we can pick up right from where we left off in the spring and really launch forward. I am feeling good about what we are starting and moving forward with.

NOTES FOR 2026:

• The Raiders return a total of 15 players from last season, including eight starters from the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship Game. Among the returners is 2025 NFHCA First Team All-American midfielder Hannah White, All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region midfielder Carme Caracotche Picone and All-PSAC forward Elaina Fragassi.

• Shippensburg was voted No. 1 in the 2026 NFHCA National Preseason Poll and second in the 2026 PSAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, behind Kutztown.

• The 2026 NCAA Division II Semifinals and Championship will be contested Dec. 3 and Dec. 5 in Kansas City , Mo. as part of the 2026 NCAA Fall Festival.
