SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team traded late goals with Slippery Rock to earn a draw on Family Day Saturday at David See Field, 1-1.
Shippensburg (1-2-3) freshman
Braedon Johnson gave the hosts a temporary lead with his first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute, only for Slippery Rock (2-1-3) to answer less than five minutes later.
Two freshmen combined for what was a terrific opening goal. SU left back
Zachary Haynie delivered a perfect ball over the top of the Slippery Rock backline. Johnson, who had just come on a sub, ran into the channel and with his first touch of the game, successfully chipped the ball over the onrushing keeper that flew just underneath the crossbar and nestled into the back of the net.
The Rock replied with a goal off a corner kick in the 77th minute. Patrick Tierney got his head onto teammate Gabin Lonjard's corner flag delivery for a shot that deflected past Shippensburg goalkeeper
Ryan Krumenacker and in.
Krumenacker was outstanding on the day, matching a season high with seven saves dealing with intense pressure from the Slippery Rock attack.
The Rock outshot Shippensburg 19-to-nine (eight-to-six in shots on target) and maintained an 11-to-four edge in corner kicks.
Hasan Mirasyedi and
Julius Dogan led the Raiders with two shots on goal.
Troy Nine made five saves in net for Slippery Rock.
Shippensburg is back in action Wednesday for a midweek matchup at Lackawanna College. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
