SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Brenden Anderson and his five fellow classmates had a Senior Day to remember Friday, as Anderson fired a no-hitter to cap a Shippensburg University Baseball doubleheader sweep of Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Fairchild Field, 18-7 and 3-1.
Â
In a weekend series dominated by the Shippensburg (27-17, 14-10 PSAC East) bats, Anderson's arm provided the marquee performance, holding Manfield (12-32, 3-21) without a hit over a career-high seven frames during a 3-1 SU victory in Game 2. The outing was SU's first no-hitter since Gabe Mosser on March 17, 2018 (a 4-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown).
Â
Mansfield (12-32, 3-21) surrendered 43 total runs in the four-game weekend series, including 21 on Friday.
Â
Shippensburg's
Jake Pope totaled four hits in five at bats (.800) in the doubleheader.
AJ Wenrich and
Kyle Ausgotharp each blasted homers.
Â
The Raiders recognized SU's six-man senior class between games. They included
Bryce Amos, Anderson,
Mike Heckman,
Franklin Muendel,
Jack Robinson and Wenrich.
Â
The dogpile following the final out of Game 2 capped a long but memorable day that included a 70-minute lightning and rain delay that occurred in the third inning of Game 1.

Shippensburg next wraps up its regular season home schedule with a doubleheader against Shepherd Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Shippensburg 18, Mansfield 7
Â
The Raiders shrugged off a 4-0 first-inning deficit, bludgeoning the Mountie pitching staff to the tune of 18 runs.
Â
Mansfield's Peter Tadic began the high-scoring opener with a solo home run, and Mountie rallied for three additional first-inning runs – including a two-run single off the bat of Cooper Rother.
Â
The Mountie advantage lasted just a little over an inning, as SU exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead.
Â
Thomas Cano-Piszel lined a three-run double during the SU rally and scored on an RBI single from
Ty Sherman.
Â
Mansfield evened the score in the fourth on a two-run single of the bat of Ryan Sekluski, 6-6, only for Shippensburg to plate 11 runs over its next two turns.
Â
A two-run double form Sherman and an RBI triple from Wenrich highlighted a four-run home half of the fourth, while Heckman,
Evan Shoffler and Sherman collected RBI knocks during SU's seven-run fifth.
Â
Wenrich crushed a solo home run in the sixth – his 10th of the season – to cap the Raider scoring.
Â
Amos earned the win in relief, taking down 4.1 innings while scattering four hits, striking out three and allowing just one earned run.
Â
Muendel pitched a scoreless sixth and Robinson retired the Mounties in the seventh to wrap up the Game 1 win.
Â
Sherman matched his career high with four RBIs on three hits for Shippensburg, while Wenrich tied a career high with four runs scored.
Â
Mansfield pitching walked nine batters and hit five others, as SU's 18 runs came on 12 hits.
Â
Game 2: Shippensburg 3, Mansfield 1
Â
Anderson left it all out on the mound in what was just his seventh career start, recording his first complete game on an efficient 87 pitches and totaling four punchouts.
Â
The right-hander's previous career-high in innings pitched was five, a feat he achieved three times in his career (twice this season).
Â
Anderson retired the Mansfield lineup in order four times. The only blemishes on his pitching line were a walk and a pair of hit batters.
Â
Anderson and Mansfield right-hander Tyler Swineford traded zeroes until the bottom of the third, when Shoffler stroked a double that scored Heckman and Pope to stake Shippensburg to a 2-0 lead.
Â
Mansfield speedster Kahale Burns was able to manufacture the visitors' only run in the top of the fifth. After being hit by an Anderson pitch to lead off the inning, Burns swiped second and third base before crossing on an RBI groundout to make it a 2-1 game.
Â
Ausgotharp then smashed a mammoth solo home run that landed on the Seth Grove Stadium track beyond the right field fence in the Raiders' next turn to regain the two-run margin.
Â
Anderson got help from his defense throughout the contest, particularly in the seventh, as Shoffler made a pair of fine plays at shortstop – including the final out – to complete the no-hit bid.
Â
Swineford surrendered three runs on six hits over four frames.
Â
Pope reached base in all three of his plate appearances for Shippensburg – going 2-for-2 with a walk – while
Brady Harbach finished 2-for-3.
