RECAP: Softball sweeps Mansfield on the road

Raider offense total 25 hits on the day

The Shippensburg University softball team picked up a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader sweep on the road against Mansfield on Friday afternoon. The Raiders ended each game in five innings winning Game 1, 11-2 and Game 2, 9-1.
 
Shippensburg (30-14, 17-9 PSAC East) finished the day with 25 hits, plating 20 runs. Out of the 25 hits, 14 of those were extra-base hits, with 12 of those being doubles. Mansfield (6-30, 3-25) ended the day with seven hits and three runs.
 
Reagan Bauman and Leah Schwalm paced the SU offense with five hits apiece.
 
Bauman went 5-for-6 at the plate with three doubles and two singles. She added an RBI and drew a walk. Schwalm went 5-for-8 on the day, with two doubles and three RBIs.
 
Dani Hayward got both wins in the circle for the Raiders, totaling 13 strikeouts on the day. In eight innings, Hayward allowed just six hits and no walks.
 
GAME 1: SHIP 11, MANSFIELD 2 (5 innings)
 
The first Raider run of the day came in the top of the first inning after a Mansfield error and an RBI single from Schwalm. Lindsey Haser recorded her first double of the day to score two runs to make it 3-0.
 
The Mountaineers got on the board in bottom of the first after back-to-back doubles to make it 3-1. Hayward finished the inning with a pair of strikeouts.
 
Brie Wilmot started the top of the second with a first pitch solo home run to increase the lead to 4-1. Sarah Sabocsik hit a double with one out, but a ground out and a fly out stopped SU from scoring.
 
SU plated four more runs in the top of the third inning. Bauman led off with a single followed by Haser's second double of the game. Gianna Cimino recorded an RBI double to clear the bases and make it 6-1. Wilmot notched the third Raider double of the inning to score Cimino, 7-1. Emilee Sullivan increased the SU lead to 8-1 with an RBI single.
 
Mansfield cut the deficit to six in the bottom of the third after a triple and a ground out RBI, 8-2.
 
Schwalm opened the top of the fourth with a single followed by a double from Bauman. Haser got her third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly to make it 9-2. Rilee Ehrlacher brought in a run with a double to increase the lead to eight.
 
Caitlyn Martell launched her seventh home run of the season in the top of the fifth to score the Raiders' last run of game, 11-2.
 
Hayward retired three straight batters in the bottom of the fifth, recording a pair of strikeouts to end the game via run rule.
 
Hayward earned her 20th win in the circle this season, striking out seven batters while allowing five hits and walking none.
 
The Raiders delivered 15 hits in Game 1, with ten of those being extra-base hits. Every Raider starter at least one hit.  
 
Schwalm and Bauman led the Raider offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate, both recording a double and two singles. Haser went 2-for-2 with three RBIs off a pair of doubles and a sacrifice fly.
 
GAME 2: SHIP 9, MANSFIELD 1 (5 innings)
 
The SU offense kept the momentum in Game 2, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Schwalm singled and Bauman hit her second double of the day to put runners in scoring position. Schwalm took advantage of a passed ball to score the first run of the game. An RBI single from Cimino increased the lead to 2-0.
 
Kaira Zamadics started in the circle in Game 2, retiring the first three Mansfield batters with three fly outs.
 
Mansfield made it 2-1 in the bottom of the second by drawing three straight walks with one out before a two-out RBI single.
 
Bauman drew a walk in the top of the third, but back-to-back outs prevented the Raiders from increasing the lead.
 
Hayward entered the circle in the bottom of the third inning. After a leadoff single, Hayward struck out the next three Mountaineers.
 
The Raiders capitalized on a two-out rally in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs after opening the inning with back-to-back outs. Sullivan and Sabocsik reached base after a hit by pitch and walk. Martell recorded an RBI single to make it 3-1. Schwalm cleared the bases with a two-run double, followed by a double from Bauman to increase the lead to 6-1. The last run of the inning came off a RBI single from Haser, 7-1.
 
Hayward recorded two more strikeouts in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Ehrlacher and Wilmot started the top of the fifth with singles. With two outs, Martell doubled to score a pair of runs, 9-1.
 
The Raider defense ended the game via run rule with three straight outs.
 
Hayward got her second win of the day, striking out six batters, allowing just one hit and walking none. Zamadics pitched two innings, allowing one hit while walking three batters.
 
The trio of Martell, Schwalm and Bauman led the SU offense recording two hits a piece. Martell and Schwalm totaled two RBIs and Bauman added one. Seven different Raiders recorded at least one hit.
