RECAP: Softball splits doubleheader at Bloomsburg, wins Game 1, 10-3

Bauman and Haser record career-best performances in Game 1 with four hits each

The Shippensburg University softball team split its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon. The Raiders took Game 1, 10-3, while the host Huskies took Game 2, 9-4, at Jan Hutchinson Field.
 
Shippensburg (22-12, 10-8 PSAC East) totaled 23 hits on the day, with 15 of those coming in Game 1. Bloomsburg (20-10, 11-7 PSAC East) nearly matched the Raiders with 22 hits and had 15 hits in Game 2. SU's Game 1 win snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Huskies.
 
Reagan Bauman led the Raider offense going 6-for-8 at the plate with two doubles. Bauman also drew a walk and scored three runs.
 
Lindsey Haser went 5-for-9 at the plate, with a pair of doubles and totaled a team-best four RBIs on the day. Bauman and Haser recorded a new single-game career high with four hits in Game 1.
 
Dani Hayward got the win in the circle for SU in Game 1. Hayward pitched a complete Game 1 and came into the circle for 2.1 innings in Game 2. Hayward struck out five batters on the day, allowing 15 hits while just walking two batters.
 
Shippensburg will return to Robb Field on Tuesday for a PSAC East doubleheader against Mansfield at 1 p.m.
 
Game 1: SHIP 10, BLOOM 3
 
Both teams left two runners on base in the first inning. The Raiders were able to strike first in the top of the second. Haser led off with a single and Sarah Sabocsik drew a walk with two outs to put two runners on. Caitlyn Martell scored the first run of the day with an RBI single.
 
Bloomsburg scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second inning. Josie Straigis hit a leadoff home run to tie the game. A Raider error and a walk put two Huskies in scoring position. A two-run single made the game 3-1.
 
SU had the bases loaded in the top of the third inning after a pair of walks and a double from Haser but were unable to score.
 
The Raiders took back the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Bauman started off with a double followed by Haser's second double of the game to cut the deficit to one. Rilee Ehrlacher hit the third double of the inning to score two runs and put SU back in the lead, 4-3.
 
SU scored six runs in the top of the seventh. Ehrlacher launched her fourth home run of the season to put the Raiders up by two. After Sabocsik drew her second walk of the game, Martell homered to the left to make it 7-3. It was Martell's third home run in the last four games and her fifth of the season.
 
With two outs, Leah Schwalm drew a walk followed by a single from Bauman. Emilee Sullivan got her first hit of the day, an RBI double, to make it 8-3. Haser finished the rally with a single to plate two more runs, 10-3.
 
Bloomsburg recorded one hit in the bottom of the seventh, but three straight outs ended the game.
 
Hayward threw a complete game for SU, striking out four batters. She allowed seven hits and walked two batters.
 
Haser and Bauman led the Raider offense going 4-for-5 at the plate, both recording a new career-high with four hits.
 
The trio of Haser, Bauman and Martell combined for 11 of the 15 Raider hits.
 
Haser totaled three RBIs off a pair of doubles and a single. Bauman hit a double and three singles. Martell added three hits with three RBIs.
 
Ehrlacher recorded a new single-game career best of three RBIs off the double and home run.
 
Game 2: BLOOM 9, SHIP 4           
 
The Huskies struck early in the first inning after two-run home run from Allie Wenrich.
 
Bloomsburg increased its lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Huskies drew a leadoff walk followed by a single and an SU error to make it 3-0. The lead increased to four after an RBI single from Wenrich.
 
The Raiders got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Schwalm hit a leadoff single followed by Bauman drawing a walk. After a double play from the Huskies, Sullivan scored Bauman with an RBI single to make it 4-1. Brie Wilmot and Ehrlacher hit back-to-back singles to make the bases loaded. SU took advantage of a Bloomsburg error to score a pair of runs and cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
 
Hayward reentered the circle in the bottom of the fourth and kept the score at 4-3.
 
Gianna Cimino opened the fifth inning with a single. Bauman hit her second double of the day followed by an RBI single from Haser to tie the game at four. The Huskies got a pair of outs to end the inning.
 
With two outs, Bloomsburg hit three singles in a row and scored two runs to make it 6-4. After the fourth hit of the inning, the Raiders got the out to keep the deficit at two.
 
Wilmot drew a walk in the top of the sixth, but a pair of fly outs and a ground out kept the score the same.
 
Bloomsburg scored their final three runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Alizabeth Schuler hit a home run to increase the lead to 7-4. Wenrich hit a two-run home run to make it 9-4.
 
Mikayla Fontana entered the circle, giving up a hit and recording a pair of outs to end the inning.
 
Bauman got on base in the top of the seventh with her second hit of the game, but a strikeout ended the game.
 
Kaira Zamadics pitched three innings, allowing six hits while walking one batter. Hayward came in the circle for 2.1 innings and allowed eight hits, striking out one batter. Fontana finished the game for the Raiders, giving up a hit.
