SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team could not find its offensive footing in the second half Saturday as it dropped a 13-9 decision to Jefferson on a sunny and pleasant afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (2-1), playing without the services of eight players due to illness or injury, maintained four different one-goal leads in the first half before ultimately heading into halftime tied 6-6.
Jefferson (1-1) held the Raiders to just three goals in the second half while scoring four in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Ali Pioli had a five-point day for the Raiders (one goal, four assists) while recording a career-high three caused turnovers and sharing the team lead of three groundballs with
Shawn Coombs.
Maddie Phommachanh and
Brynn Hauck each scored twice – Phommachanh was shifted to more of an attack role Saturday due to personnel – Hauck added two caused turnovers and two groundballs.
Alexa Bailey added two assists, including one on a tally by her sister
Aubrey Bailey.
Abby Schwartz-Mitchell and
Jordan Markey each scored their first collegiate goals in Saturday's contest.
Grace DeMarzio recorded a game-high six draw controls to go along with two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Leah Cramer made five saves in goal.
The Rams got a strong effort offensively from Lilly Lutz, who tallied seven points (four goals, three assists). Iris Gluck and Reagan Rogers each tallied three goals and one assist – Gluck added five draw controls.
Defensively, Lindley Gori had five draw controls and three caused turnovers, while Audrey Cashin recorded three caused turnovers and three groundballs.
Shippensburg will be on the road for a pair of games next week, the first of which is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lock Haven.
