SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team scored seven goals in both the second and third quarters Wednesday afternoon to achieve a resounding victory in its 2026 season opener, posting a 20-4 win over Wheeling at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (1-0) and Wheeling (0-2) were scoreless for the opening eight minutes and combined for just three goals in the first quarter, after which the Raiders maintained a 2-1 lead.

SU used a 4-0 run to take a 9-2 lead in the second quarter and pulled away after halftime by blanking the Cardinals in the third quarter.

The contest was marred by whistles, with the two teams combining for 27 cards (20 green, six yellow, one red). Thirteen of Shippensburg's 20 goals were of the "man-up" variety. Only eight of the game's 24 total goals came at even strength. Â

Eleven different Raiders scored a goal.
Maddie Phommachanh and
Alexa Bailey had hat tricks – Phommachanh also led the team with three caused turnovers. It was the seventh hat trick of Phommachanh's career and the second of Bailey's career.

Shannon Wood and
Olivia Glinski had six-point days – career highs for both players. Each finished with two goals and four assists.

Sydney Fowler entered the day with three career points in 23 games played and finished with single-game career highs of two goals and three assists while matching her career high with two groundballs.

Jill Ahlgren and
Brynn Hauck each scored twice; Hauck added three draw controls.

Grace DeMarzio led the team with five groundballs and four draw controls while recording two caused turnovers. DeMarzio also assisted Hauck's first goal.

Grace Schaffner,
Aubrey Bailey and
Lexi Koz also found the back of the net.

Schaffner and
Aubrey Bailey each added three groundballs, while
Ryleigh Hooper assisted Schaffner's goal.

Leah Cramer made five saves in her collegiate debut in 50 minutes of action in front of the cage.
Izzy Sawicki worked the crease for the final nine-plus minutes.

Wheeling's Trinity Rose collected three points (one goal, two assists), four groundballs and four caused turnovers. Brooke Jeffery led all players with five draw controls, while Julia Daniels scored twice.

It was the second game of the season for the Cardinals, who dropped a 15-11 contest to Gannon this past Saturday.
