SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team shot 69 percent from the field (20-of-29) and scored 51 points in the first half Thursday night as it posted a wire-to-wire victory over Lock Haven, 85-69, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (10-9, 5-7 PSAC), which scored 58 points in the second half of its last game (a 97-77 victory Saturday at Mansfield), maintained that offensive momentum in the opening 20 minutes Thursday by shooting 53 percent from three-point range (8-of-15) and taking a 22-point lead (51-29) into halftime.
SU used a 13-0 run in the opening five minutes and embarked upon runs of 9-0 and 8-0 in the final five minutes of the half to take control.
Lock Haven (7-12, 3-9) got as close as 12 points in the opening six minutes of the second half but was never able to reduce its deficit to single digits.
For just the second time this season, five Raiders finished in double figures.
Markus Frank scored nine points in each half to finish with a team-high 18, while
Michael Dickson stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Jaydon Smith had an electric first half in which he scored 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting (3-of-4 from three-point range), grabbed five rebounds, and handed out six assists. Smith finished with 17 points overall.
Trey Martin also thrived in the opening 20 minutes, scoring all 11 of his points on 4-of-5 shooting that included 3-of-4 from three-point range. Martin matched his career high in three-pointers while finishing with four rebounds.
Timmy Conner was 3-of-6 from three-point range and finished with 11 points.
Denzel Figueroa added nine points and seven rebounds.
The Bald Eagles got 18 points from Luke Kennevan, who was 8-of-14 from the field. Dyllon Scott added 14 points for the visitors, making 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Thursday's victory snapped a four-game losing streak to Lock Haven and marked Shippensburg's fourth straight victory – matching its longest winning streak of the season.
Shippensburg is back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Bloomsburg at Heiges Field House.
