SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team concluded this week's three-game homestand with a setback against East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House, 64-49.
Shippensburg (1-16, 0-10 PSAC) hung tough at points with East Stroudsburg (11-6, 6-4) but was plagued by offensive inconsistency. The Raiders shot a combined 11-for-27 from the field (41%) in the first and fourth quarters and just 6-for-26 (23%) in the middle stanzas.
Michelle Olak tallied her fourth-straight double-digit scoring performance and ninth overall this season, totaling 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
SU trailed by nine points at halftime, 36-27, before scoring just eight points in the third quarter. The Warriors took their largest lead of 20 points, 62-42, midway through the final frame.
Shippensburg converted 12-of-13 attempts from the foul line Saturday, the team's best free throw rate of the season (92 percent). The Raiders came into play Saturday shooting 67.1 percent from the free throw line overall this campaign.
The Warriors registered four players in double figures in scoring, and five finished with eight or more points.
Brie Droege recorded a double-double for the Warriors, finishing with a game-high 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. Lacie Kringe filled up the box score to the tune of 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Kiara Hardy finished with eight points on 4-of-8 from the field (50%) and managed three steals.
Abbie Johns chipped in with seven points and two assists, while
Makayla Foddrell contributed five points and six boards.
After a midweek bye, Shippensburg will be back in action next Saturday with a road date at Mansfield. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
