RECAP: No. 2 Field Hockey survives at No. 6 Mansfield, posts 2-1 victory

Albee makes five second-half saves to reach 200 for her career

The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team got two goals in a three-minute span of the second quarter on Sunday to come away with a hard-fought victory at No. 6 Mansfield, defeating the Mountaineers by a 2-1 score in a non-conference matchup at Van Norman Field.

For the second consecutive week, Shippensburg (7-0) successfully completed a stretch of three games in five days without sustaining a loss.

After a scoreless first quarter in which neither team had a shot on goal, Mansfield (3-2) opened the scoring with 5:12 left in the half. Capitalizing quickly off a restart from a foul, Jenna Duke sent a ball into the box that was redirected by Amanda Ray over to the left crease and finished by Leah Toskey into the open cage.

Toskey's goal ended Shippensburg's scoreless streak of 285 minutes, 21 seconds that dated back to the second game of the season at West Chester on Sept. 9.

Less than two minutes after the Mountaineer goal, the Raiders answered. Lilly Cantabene sent a pass to the top of the scoring circle where McKenna Boyle fired home her fourth goal of the season.

With 33 seconds left in the half, Madison Fissel tapped a pass to Cantabene, who slammed in her fourth goal of the season.

Emma Albee made five saves in the second half, bringing her career total to 201. Her first save was arguably the most noteworthy – as she denied the Mountaineers on a penalty stroke in the third quarter.

Albee followed that up with four saves in the fourth quarter – all in the final seven minutes – to preserve the victory. Mountaineer goalkeeper Lydia Miller made four saves for the hosts.

Mansfield recorded nine of its 10 penalty corners in the second half – five in the fourth quarter – to apply consistent offensive pressure down the stretch.

Both teams had a shot hit the post in the second half as well.

Sunday's game was a non-conference match between the teams. The official "PSAC" matchup will take place Saturday, Oct. 25 at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg will now have the benefit of six days between games. The Raiders will open PSAC play at noon Saturday against IUP at Robb Sports Complex.
