Cam Henry found the back of the net in the 81st minute Saturday to propel the Shippensburg University men's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory at Slippery Rock in non-conference action at James Egli Field.
Shippensburg (2-2-0) achieved its first win over Slippery Rock (2-2-1) since the 2022 season and its first win at Egli Field since 2018. Henry's game-winning goal was a sneaky strike into the lower-left corner of the net that was set up by an excellent through ball in the midfield from
Ethan Omondi.
About 20 minutes earlier, reserve
Coy Rush nearly gave the Raiders the lead just two minutes after checking in to his first collegiate match. Rush dribbled around the drawn-out goalkeeper but fired a shot that was saved by a leaping defender in front of the cage. The opportunity was again set up by an excellent Omondi through ball.
Jack McCann, making his third collegiate start in goal, recorded three saves to achieve his first collegiate shutout.
Shots on goal were 5-3 in Shippensburg's favor. The Raiders also had nine corner kicks to SRU's five. The teams combined for five yellow cards.
Shippensburg hits the road again Wednesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference match at Cal (Pa.).
