SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team received goals from five different players Wednesday as it posted its fourth shutout of the young season, defeating Frostburg State by a 5-0 margin in non-conference action at Robb Sports Complex.
Â
Shippensburg (5-0) scored a goal in each quarter for the second straight contest. The third Raider tally came off the stick of
Agus Garibaldi, which was the 50th of her career.
Â
She became the ninth player in school history to reach the 50-goal mark.
Â
Kelly Naudé opened the scoring in the first quarter with a successful redirect of a Garibaldi shot for her third goal of the season.
Â
Naudé assisted on both of SU's second-quarter strikes. The first goal was by
Elaina Fragassi from a shot that ramped high into the air off a defender's stick that flew over the goalkeeper. The other tally was Garibaldi's, who delivered a slick finish for her second goal of the season.
Â
Lilly Cantabene and
Hannah White added second-half goals by cleaning up rebounds in the crease.
Â
SU has scored 20 times through its first five games, with no player having more than three goals. Eleven different Raiders have scored a goal so far this season.
Â
Frostburg State (0-5), playing its fourth nationally-ranked opponent of the season, managed three penalty corners. The Bobcats appeared to score a goal late in the first quarter off their first corner, but the shot by Paige Leitzel hit the left post, then ricocheted off the right post, and then hit an SU defender to result in a second corner.
Â
Zoe Barnes made 20 saves for Frostburg State – 13 of which were made in the fourth quarter. Piper Taylor and Morgan Sparks recorded defensive saves.
Â
Wednesday's game was a non-conference match; the two teams will play their official PSAC contest on Oct. 1 at Frostburg State.
