The No. 4 Shippensburg University field hockey team blanked No. 2 Saint Anselm on Sunday afternoon, 4-0, to achieve its third shutout through four matches this season. The neutral-site contest was played at Widener University.
Â
Shippensburg (4-0) scored a goal in all four quarters. The Raiders finished with a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 12-8 edge in penalty corners.
Â
The first two goals came in the run of play.
Lilly Cantabene scored her second goal of the season at the 8:53 mark. Less than two minutes into the second quarter,
Mckenna Boyle notched her second goal of the season. That tally prompted the Hawks to switch goaltenders.
Â
SU's second-half goals were achieved off penalty corners. In the third quarter,
Anne Gardner scored her second goal in as many games –
Savannah Silvestre had the assist.
Â
With six and a half minutes left, Silvestre found the back of the net off a feed from
Hannah White.
Â
Saint Anselm (2-3), the reigning national champions, was playing its second match in as many days after a 4-2 loss yesterday at No. 7 West Chester. The Hawks were limited by the Raiders to just three penalty corners and zero shots on goal through the first three quarters. Â
Â
Emma Albee made four saves – all in the fourth quarter – to record her 18th career shutout. Saint Anselm managed five penalty corners in the final 15 minutes.
Â
Shippensburg hosts Frostburg State at 3 p.m. Wednesday for a non-conference game at Robb Sports Complex.
