Heather Chantiles '08 and current head coach Alison Van Scyoc were recently named one of the top 25 Mid-Penn softball players of the century by PennLive.

Chantiles, a star at Central Dauphin High School, played for the Raiders from 2004-06 and remains the school record holder for career batting average (minimum 200 at-bats). She hit .472 (136 hits in 288 at-bats) in her three seasons and compiled a .492 career on-base percentage, which is second in school history.

In 2006, Chantiles was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Her 112 hits that season remain the all-time PSAC single-season record.

Van Scyoc helped lead Shippensburg Area Senior High School to the state championship game as a senior before going on to a four-year varsity career at the University of Virginia, where she was a captain and starting catcher.

At Shippensburg, Van Scyoc has compiled an overall record of 246-169 in nine seasons as the head softball coach. SU had a postseason run to remember in 2025, earning its third-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Softball Championships after a 36-win season. The Raiders defeated No. 16 East Stroudsburg at regionals and No. 14 Kutztown at super regionals to win the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region title.
