SU falls 16-7; five different Raiders score goals

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team faced No. 2 West Chester for the second time this season on Wednesday and dropped a 16-7 result to the Golden Rams in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Robb Sports Complex.
 
Shippensburg (6-7, 1-7 PSAC East) held West Chester within one goal at the end of the first quarter, with the score of 4-3. Freshman Maddie Phommachanh scored two of her three goals and the team's first two goals of the game in the first quarter.
 
West Chester (12-0, 8-0) answered by scoring six of its 16 goals in the second quarter with Shippensburg's one goal coming from senior Jamie Carvin.
 
The Golden Rams established a running clock when they took a 15-5 lead in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Raiders outscored WCU, 2-1.

Junior Ali Pioli led the team with five draw controls, three assists, and two caused turnovers.
 
Junior Grace DeMarzio led the team with three groundballs. Senior Kayla Hillaert also picked up two groundballs.
 
Senior goalkeeper Kayla Vosburg recorded a season high of 16 saves, two short of her career high. She also stopped 50 percent of the shots she faced in Wednesday's game against the Golden Rams.
 
All-American Keri Barnett led West Chester with six goals, three caused turnovers, and five draw controls. Sydney Wasdick led all players with 10 draw controls. She also totaled five goals on the day for WCU.
 
The Raiders will be back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg.
