RECAP: Lacrosse wins 12-10 at Bloomsburg; Kayla Vosburg records 600th career save

Glinski and Sara Vosburg each score four goals; SU achieves most season victories since 2018

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team achieved a season series split with Bloomsburg on Saturday as it led wire-to-wire in a 12-10 victory over the Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash at Steph Pettit Stadium.

Shippensburg (7-7, 2-7 PSAC East) held Bloomsburg (6-8, 2-7) scoreless for the opening 12:30, establishing a 3-0 lead and never trailing on Saturday despite the Huskies getting within one goal on multiple occasions. The Raiders picked up their seventh victory – marking the most by the team since the 2018 season.

Senior Kayla Vosburg tied a career high with 18 saves and posted a season-high .643 save percentage. In the victory, Vosburg became the second player in school history and just the 13th player in PSAC history to surpass 600 career saves.

It was the second straight game in which Vosburg posted a season high in saves after making 16 stops and setting aside 50 percent of the shots she faced Wednesday against No. 2 West Chester.

Sophomore Olivia Glinski and senior Sara Vosburg each scored four goals to lead the Raiders. Glinski's four goals mark a career high and her second hat trick of the season; she scored four of the team's first six goals on the day.

Sara Vosburg, meanwhile, posted her seventh hat trick of the season and the 24th of her career. Her stat line on the day included two assists and three groundballs. She has now scored 140 career goals and needs 13 more to crack the Top 5 in school history.

Her team-high 27 assists this season are four more than her career total through her first three seasons. Sara Vosburg's 192 career points are now tied with Bernie Tufillaro Pence (1993-95, 97) for fifth-most in school history.

Junior Ali Pioli and sophomore Brynn Hauck each added a goal and an assist. The two players also combined for seven of SU's 11 draw controls on the day (Hauck four, Pioli three). Pioli had two groundballs; she is two short of reaching 100 for her career.

Freshman Maddie Phommachanh and senior Jamie Carvin each scored a goal, with Carvin's being the final tally of the match with two minutes remaining. Phommachanh matched Sara Vosburg with a team-high three groundballs.

Senior Annie Rathgeb led Shippensburg with a team-high three caused turnovers, one short of her single-game career high. Junior Grace DeMarzio had an assist and two groundballs, while sophomore Alexa Bailey added an assist.

SU scored three "woman-down" goals on the day – finding the back of the net despite having one less player on the field due to a card. Two of Glinski's goals were "woman-down" goals while Phommachanh's tally also came with a player disadvantage. The teams combined for 14 cards (seven each).

Bloomsburg got goals from eight different players and posted a 28-25 advantage in shots on goal, but Kayla Vosburg was up to the task in goal. She denied the Huskies five times on free-position attempts.

Saturday's victory snapped a seven-game losing streak to Bloomsburg that dated back to the 2021 season. SU lost at home earlier this season to the Huskies, 15-14, at Robb Sports Complex.

The Raiders are 2-3 this season in games decided by two goals or less.

Shippensburg returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when it hosts nationally-ranked Kutztown. The Raiders will be holding its annual Julia Wise Appreciation Game that day at Robb Sports Complex.

Notes: Kayla Vosburg's 609 career saves are second in school history to Leslie Peed (699 from 1992-95)…Sara Vosburg is 14 points shy of Lindsey Kennedy (206 from 2010-13) for fourth all-time in school history and 12 goals shy of Alana Cardaci (152 from 2018-22) for fifth all-time in school history…Sara Vosburg is also five groundballs shy of 100 for her career.
