SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team established a 9-2 lead over Frostburg State after the first quarter on Saturday and used that momentum to record a 17-10 victory over the Bobcats on a cold and windy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (4-1) won its fourth straight game, marking its longest winning streak in eight years (SU won its first four games of the 2017 season). The Raiders did not allow more than three goals in any quarter Saturday and committed just 15 turnovers – continuing a trend as they have not committed more than 15 turnovers in any game during the current streak.

Sara Vosburg, the reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Co-Athlete of the Week, finished with four goals and three assists. Her seven-point effort gives her a total of 35 points (20 goals, 15 assists) over the last four games. She is now up to 12 assists this season – a new single-season career high.

Maddie Phommachanh had a hat trick in the first quarter and finished with four goals to go along with a career-high four caused turnovers and a pair of groundballs.

Ali Pioli had a career-high five assists; she assisted on four of the team's goals in the first quarter. Pioli also came away with three groundballs and three draw controls.

Grace DeMarzio was once again a stalwart along the back lines and the primary beneficiary of Pioli's center-circle work. DeMarzio matched her career high with eight draw controls, picked up a career-high six groundballs and had two caused turnovers. Â

Brynn Hauck posted her second career hat trick and added an assist, four draw controls and three groundballs.

Alexa Bailey and senior
Jamie Carvin each scored twice. Bailey added an assist and two groundballs, while Wood collected a season-high four groundballs.

Kayla Vosburg made seven saves for the Raiders.

Frostburg State (3-3) got four goals and an assist from Camden DeMaio along with three goals, an assist and four draw controls from Neila Haney. Reserve goalkeeper Grace Dickey, who entered to start the second quarter, made 13 saves and allowed just eight goals over the final three quarters.

Shippensburg hits the road for its next two matches. Its next contest is 3 p.m. Friday at Barton.
