The Shippensburg University lacrosse team dropped a 22-7 decision at No. 3 West Chester on Sunday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at cloudy Vonnie Gros Field.
Shippensburg (5-2, 0-2 PSAC East) held a 2-0 lead with 7:53 remaining in the first quarter after opening the scoring with goals from sophomores
Alexa Bailey and
Olivia Glinski.
West Chester (6-0, 2-0) answered its initial deficit by scoring 10 consecutive goals to take control. The Golden Rams also scored twice in the final 17 seconds of the first half to take a 13-5 lead into the intermission and then outscored the Raiders 6-0 in the third quarter.
Junior
Shannon Wood and Glinski each scored twice for the Raiders. Glinski added an assist to make it a three-point day. Junior
Ali Pioli assisted on the first two goals of the game and finished with three assists.
Senior
Sara Vosburg had a goal and two assists, while senior
Jamie Carvin also found the back of the net once.
Draw controls were 17-15 in West Chester's favor. Pioli had a team-high five draw controls for the Raiders, while Vosburg and junior
Grace DeMarzio each had four.
Senior goalkeeper
Kayla Vosburg kept the Raiders in it with 12 saves in the first half.
The Golden Rams got five goals and an assist from All-American Keri Barnett, four goals and nine draw controls from Sydney Wasdick, and four goals and an assist from Kendall Fortune. WCU posted a 35-12 advantage in shots on goal.
Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Robb Sports Complex. It is the team's "The Hidden Opponent" game.
