RECAP: Women’s Indoor Track & Field wins six events Friday night at Susquehanna

Lee, Todd, Bender, Whigham, Simmons and Bellows claim top spots in respective events

The Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team won six events at the River Hawk Friday Night Showdown hosted by Susquehanna University, including four in the field.
 
Carissa Bender continued her excellent sophomore season with her latest personal best – winning the pole vault Friday night on a top clearance of 11 feet, 7 ¼ inches (3.54 meters). Bender's previous season best of 11 feet, 5 ¾ inches (3.50 meters) was set two weeks back at Bucknell.
 
SU swept the throws, as ShanAnn Simmons won the shot and Lauren Bellows won the weight. Bellows set a new personal best for the third time this season, enhancing her PR with a top mark of 51 feet, 4 ¼ inches (15.65 meters). Simmons' top shot traveled 38 feet, 10 ½ inches (11.85 meters).
 
Riyah Whigham won the long jump on a top mark of 17 feet, 11 inches and took third in the triple jump on a new personal-best clearance of 36 feet, 8 ½ inches (11.19 meters). Whigham's triple jump equals the season best of fellow first year Anne Gardner, who jumped 36 feet, 2 inches Friday.
 
On the track, Sasha Lee, Nicola Puggé; and Camryn Pyle finished 1-2-3 in the 60-meter hurdles. Lee returned to action with a prelim time of 9.25 seconds and ran 9.46 seconds in the finals with a strong close. Puggé delivered a strong time of 9.47 seconds while Pyle crossed the finish line in 9.59 seconds.
 
Katy Todd won the 5K with a time of 19:26.90.
 
Addalynn Brower once again re-wrote her PR in the 60 meters, finishing second in the finals with a time of 8.06 seconds. Brower entered the night with a PR of 8.12 seconds and ran 8.13 seconds in the prelims. Brower also finished second in the 200 meters, running 27.31 seconds.  
 
Abby Urban improved her season bests to 8.45 seconds in the 60 and 28.05 seconds in the 200. Lilah Drager enhanced her 800-meter PR to 2:36.48.
 
Shippensburg will be sending a contingent to Penn State tomorrow to compete in the Sykes & Sabock Challenge at the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Facility.
