The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome a first-half deficit Wednesday night as it dropped its final road game of the season, falling 63-55 at Shepherd in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at the Butcher Athletic Center.
Shippensburg (8-18, 5-15 PSAC East) shot just 32.8 percent from the field and could not overcome an 18-point deficit in the first half as Shepherd (7-20, 4-17) made 14 field goals in the opening 20 minutes and led 38-22 at halftime. The Raiders closed the gap to eight points down the stretch by scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Senior
Taja Colbert led the Raiders with 19 points. Junior
Makayla Foddrell finished with 11 points, one off her career high. Foddrell tied her career high with four field goals; she was 4-of-5 from the field and made her first career three-pointer.
Senior
Abbie Miller posted her fourth double-double of the season by scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds in 30 minutes of action. Miller was 5-of-9 from the field and eight of her rebounds were on the offensive glass.
Sophomore
Bella Chimienti played all 40 minutes, finishing with seven points, three assists and a career-high 13 rebounds. Freshman
Michelle Olak equaled her career highs in blocks (two) and steals (two).
The Shepherd bench outscored Shippensburg's 29-2. Ram reserve Lamaria Estridge led the hosts with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Jenna Liska scored 12 points and had a team-high three assists off the bench. Kara Wehner also had 12 points.
Shippensburg wraps up its season at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Mansfield at Heiges Field House. Before the game, the team will honor its seniors.
