SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team led after three quarters but ultimately fell to Mansfield on Senior Day Saturday at Heiges Field House, 63-57.
Shippensburg (8-19, 5-16 PSAC East) senior
Abbie Miller – one of four SU players honored pregame – had a spirited effort in her final game as Raider, notching her fifth double-double of the season (16 points, 10 rebounds), as well as a career-high three three-point makes (3-for-7, 43 percent) and three steals.
Mansfield (10-17, 6-15) was able to hold off Miller and company thanks to a big day from sharp-shooter Katie Sheeler, who finished with career highs in three-point makes (8-for-18, 44 percent) and total points (28).
Miller scored six points during a 10-2 Shippensburg run to close the third quarter, including an and-one lay-up with two seconds left on the third quarter clock that gave the Raiders their first lead since the opening frame, 44-43.
Shippensburg led as late as the 6:38 mark of the fourth quarter, 50-49, and a Miller trey cut the SU deficit to a single point, 54-53, with 4:57 left, but the Mounties were able to successfully sink their free throws down the stretch to thwart the Raider comeback.
Senior
Taja Colbert joined Miller in double figures with 13 points and collected three steals. Freshman
McKenzie Thomas added 12.
Junior
Makayla Foddrell filled up the stat sheet, contributing four points, six boards, three assists and three steals.
