SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team came up short in the finale of a three-game weekend series against Gannon Sunday at Fairchild Field, 5-4.
Shippensburg (4-3), twice winners in walk-off fashion the day before, made it a one-run game with single runs in the eighth and ninth inning, but could not complete the comeback against Gannon (1-2) Sunday.
Junior
AJ Wenrich finished 2-for-5 with a triple and a double. He went 8-for-13 (.615) with four RBIs against the Golden Knights this weekend.
All three games against in the series against the Golden Knights were decided by a single run, and on Sunday the two teams combined to leave 30 men on base.
Gannon shortstop Hunter Troiano put the Golden Knights up 5-1 with a pair of RBI singles that drove in a total of three runs.
Freshman
Thomas Cano-Piszel (2-for-4, RBI) launched a solo home run, and freshman
Will Oates (2-for-5, run) doubled and scored in the eighth and doubled once again in the ninth as the Raiders' attempted their comeback.
Senior
Carter Hinds also posted a pair of hits. Sophomore
Mason Morris collected an RBI single.
Shippensburg used a total of five pitchers Sunday. Redshirt-senior
Cameron Goble got the start and looked fantastic through three innings. He was charged with three runs (two earned) on five hits in 3.2 innings and recorded four punchouts.
Junior
Brenden Anderson (three innings) and junior
Jack Robinson (one inning) had scoreless outings in relief.
Shippensburg returns to action Friday with a nine-inning game against visiting Slippery Rock. First pitch from Fairchild Field is at 2 p.m.
