SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team closed out the 2025 calendar year with a setback to Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action Sunday afternoon at Heiges Field House, 84-53.
Shippensburg (1-9, 0-3 PSAC) couldn't cool white-hot Edinboro (7-6, 4-0) early as the Fighting Scots started the game 10-of-11 from the field and shot 68 percent overall (21-for-31) in the first half, including 71 percent from three-point range (5-for-7).
The Raiders regrouped and outscored the Fighting Scots 30-29 in the second half. They were led by a career night from freshman
Lauren Marton, who finished with a career-best 18 points. She also set new career highs in made three-pointers (3), blocked shots (2) and matched her career best in total rebounds (7).
Melana Eyer also finished with 18 points on 7-of-14 from the field (50 percent) to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
The Fighting Scots did not let up after their blazing start, concluding the first quarter on a 12-1 run. After Marton began the second quarter with a three, Edinboro reeled off a 21-2 burst and led 55-23 at halftime.
Edinboro guard Taylor Blunt was perfect from the field in the first half, converting 6-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-3 from the arc. Nineteen of her game-high 22 points came before the break. Rachael Manfredo registered 19 points and nine rebounds, while Ava Haddad added 17.
Marton converted 6-of-12 (50 percent) from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range (50 percent). Eleven of her 18 points came after intermission.
Abbie Johns totaled five points and a career-high five assists for Shippensburg;
Mackenzie Stoner set a new career high with six rebounds.
Shippensburg returns to action in the New Year Friday, Jan. 2 at Gannon. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
