SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team got a career-high 27 points on Saturday from
Michelle Olak but dropped a 69-64 double-overtime decision to Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (1-8, 0-2 PSAC) led by eight points with eight minutes left in regulation but could not put away Slippery Rock (5-4, 3-0). The Rock made 14 field goals in the fourth quarter and overtime after making just 12 in the first 30 minutes.
A defensive stop set the Raiders up for the final shot of regulation, which went to no avail. After trailing by five points in the first overtime, SU rallied and had the final possession once again, but could not find a game-winner. The Rock never trailed in the second overtime; the six-point margin of victory marked their biggest lead of the game.
Olak's 27 points are the most in a single game by a Raider since Treasure George scored 35 in the final game of the 2023-24 season. She was a highly efficient 12-of-17 from the field, exceeding her previous career high in field goals by five and in points by 11. It was Olak's second career double-double, as she finished with 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Melana Eyer reached double figures for the sixth time this season, finishing with 12 points while grabbing a career-high eight rebounds and blocking a career-high two shots.
Abbie Johns scored 11 points, including four in double overtime, while equaling her career high with six rebounds.
Kiara Hardy led the Raiders with a career-high 12 rebounds and was two points shy of her first-ever double-double. Her previous career high in rebounds, entering Saturday, was five. Hardy added three assists and two steals.
McKenzie Thomas contributed a key "and-one" in the first overtime to key a Raider rally while
Makayla Foddrell contributed seven rebounds and two steals.
Sophia Hook led all players with 27 points; she was 4-of-8 from three-point range while her teammates combined to go 0-for-15 from behind the arc. Karianna Woods had 14 points and six steals, while Kayley Joseph-Bernard contributed eight points, a team-high 12 rebounds and four assists.
Slippery Rock was just 13-of-24 (54 percent) at the free-throw line, but Shippensburg finished 10-of-22 (46 percent). SU shot 41 percent from the field and held The Rock to 38-percent shooting; the Raiders also finished with a 50-to-38 advantage in rebounds.
Saturday marked SU's first double-overtime game since Jan. 3, 2020 (a 91-77 victory over Millersville).
Shippensburg hosts Edinboro at 1 p.m. Sunday at Heiges Field House.
