SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's cross country team garnered two of the three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) major awards for the 2025 fall season, as senior Garrett Quinan was named Athlete of the Year and Steve Spence Coach of the Year.

The awards were announced Thursday afternoon by the league office. Voting is conducted by the league's head coaches.

Quinan wins Athlete of the Year honors for the third straight season, becoming the first Raider in program history and second PSAC runner since 1990 (Lock Haven's Alex Monroe from 2011-13) to do so. SU's Alex Balla and Randy Lowe won the award in 2017 and 1990, respectively.

Quinan was the No. 1 runner for a Raider squad which under Spence's direction captured the 2025 PSAC and 2025 NCAA Atlantic Region titles, marking just the third time in school history that they have won both titles in the same season (2016, 2017). SU's 17th-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championships was its best performance in eight years.

Quinan took second place overall at the PSAC Championships to become a four-time All-PSAC runner.

At regionals, Quinan placed third overall in the race to earn United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region honors. Quinan was the top American and PSAC runner at regionals and achieved his fourth career All-Region classification – including his third straight Top 5 finish.

Quinan concluded the season with the top performance of his career at nationals, finishing in 44th place –four spots shy of achieving All-America honors.

For Spence, it is his third straight PSAC Coach of the Year award and ninth overall. He had already been tabbed as the 2025 USTCCCA Men's Cross Country Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

Lock Haven runner Brayden Frair rounded out the major awards as PSAC Freshman of the Year.
