RECAP: Men’s Soccer concludes season with late defeat at West Chester, 2-1

SU’s Nate Herb netted his fourth goal of the season

The Shippensburg University men's soccer team wrapped up its season with a tough loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent West Chester Thursday afternoon at Rockwell Field, 2-1.

Shippensburg (3-9-4, 0-7-3 PSAC East) got a first half equalizer from defender Nate Herb and were on equal terms with West Chester (9-5-3, 5-3-2) for most of the second half, only for the Golden Rams to find a match-winning goal in the 81st minute.

West Chest scored early and late Thursday, taking the lead in the second minute on a corner kick goal from Ian Alicea.

Shippensburg tied the score a half hour later via set piece. An Ethan Paulukow through ball opened up space for Kyle Ganley and forced the Golden Rams to foul the SU forward just outside the eighteen.

Luke Kramer's initial free kick attempt came off a Golden Ram forehead and bounced in the direction of Pat McNamara near the penalty spot. The freshman wingback uncorked a one-time volley from close range that caromed off Herb's right shoulder blade and flew into the back of the net.

Herb was given credit for the goal – his fourth of the season – putting him in a three-way tie with Ganley and Anthony Weekley for the club lead. McNamara was credited with his first collegiate assist.

SU goalkeeper Ryan Krumenacker kept the visitors level until a late miscue resulted in the WCU game-winner.

An SU defender tried to redirect a ball in the box from West Chester back to Krumenacker in goal, but a poor touch forced the SU keeper to go to ground to avoid an own goal. Krumenacker was unable to corral it, resulting in a tap-in for WCU's Maksym Komperda at the far post.

The miscue spoiled a Herculean effort from the SU goalkeeper, who nearly earned a point for Shippensburg despite facing down 26 total Golden Ram shots. West Chester had a 10-to-2 edge in shots on goal and 12-to-1 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.

Krumenacker totaled eight saves, one off his season high.
